Consent-based

team management

The Challenge

Needed to improve team cohesion, maintain or establish transparent lines of communication, share responsibility of running annual initiatives across team members instead of bottlenecking with the Team Lead.

The Process

Over the course of 6 months, incremental roll out of new practices. This gave the team time to adopt and give feedback on different activities over time.

Each new practice was being tracked in a shared team Jira space, where anyone could own the tasks, comment, and complete the items.

The Tools

Action meetings biweekly instead of “team meeting” each month.

Active agenda development.

Check-ins at the beginning of each meeting, with no exceptions.

Focused and self-managed teams implementing new initiatives.

The Outcomes

Increased trust and mutual understanding between colleagues.

Consistent action meetings that were well-attended, active participation in agenda creation and priority discussion.

Team members worked on more projects that aligned with their favorite causes or new skills they wanted to develop.
